Biomechanics & Biomedical Engineering

This research applies computational mechanics, design optimisation and additive manufacturing to the mechanical assessment and design of dental structures and tissue scaffolds.

Mechanical analysis of biomedical structures

Biomedical structures need to balance geometry, material behaviour and manufacturing constraints. My collaborative work examines these relationships through modelling, design optimisation and experimental evidence.

  • Dental structures: investigating fracture and manufacturing challenges in thin ceramic restorations.
  • Tissue scaffolds: designing porous structures while accounting for material and geometric variability.
  • Mechanical assessment: connecting computational predictions with tests of fabricated structures.

Contactless support for ultrathin dental veneers

A collaborative study explored a contactless support strategy for digital light processing of zirconia veneers. It investigated how avoiding direct support contact could reduce damage during support removal, with fabricated parts assessed for accuracy and flexural strength.

Scaffold design under manufacturing uncertainty

Research on 3D-printed ceramic tissue scaffolds considered variations in geometry and material properties within a multiobjective optimisation framework. The study addresses the gap between an idealised scaffold design and the variability of fabrication.
